Just honest answers to your blinds questions.

Which type of blind should I choose?

Start with what you need the blind to do.

For bedrooms where stronger light control matters, a blackout Roller Blind is usually the most straightforward choice. For living rooms and studies where you still want natural light, Sunscreen Roller Blinds, Korean Blinds or Trishade may be more suitable.

For balconies and outdoor areas, Outdoor Blinds provide shade and daytime privacy, while ZipScreen offers a more enclosed system with the fabric secured within side channels.

There isn’t one blind that’s best for every room. The right choice depends on light, privacy, window size, exposure and how you use the space.

What is the difference between blackout, dimout and sunscreen fabric?

Blackout fabric is designed for stronger light control and privacy.

Dimout reduces incoming light while leaving the room with a softer glow.

Sunscreen is an open-weave fabric designed to reduce glare and heat while allowing some outward visibility.

One important detail: blackout fabric does not automatically mean a completely dark room. Depending on the blind and installation, some light may still enter around the edges.

Do Korean Blinds provide 100% blackout?

No.

VB Korean Blinds use a dual-layer construction. Our dimout option provides approximately 60–70% light reduction, while the blackout option provides approximately 80–90%.

Even with blackout fabric, small amounts of light can still enter around the edges and between the fabric layers.

If getting the room as dark as possible is your priority, a blackout Roller Blind may be a more suitable choice.

Do Sunscreen Roller Blinds give me privacy?

During the day, they can provide a degree of privacy while still allowing you to see outside.

At night, it’s different. When your home is brighter than outside, visibility through the fabric increases.

If nighttime privacy is important, don’t rely on sunscreen fabric alone.

Which blinds are best for bedrooms?

If light control and privacy are your priorities, blackout or dimout Roller Blinds are good places to start.

Blackout Roller Blinds provide stronger light control, while dimout fabric allows more light into the room.

Korean Blinds are another option if you prefer their layered appearance and adjustable light control, but even the blackout version will not provide complete blackout.

Which blinds are suitable for living rooms?

It depends on how you want the room to feel.

Sunscreen Roller Blinds are useful when you want to reduce glare without completely closing off the view. Korean Blinds give you more flexibility to adjust light through their dual-layer design, while Trishade creates a softer, layered look.

You don’t need to use the same blind throughout your entire home. Choose according to how each space is used.

Can I use blinds for very wide or tall windows?

Yes, but every blind system has its limits.

Maximum dimensions depend on the product, fabric, operating system, height, width and actual site conditions.

For larger openings, your authorised dealer can assess the space and recommend a suitable configuration rather than simply making the blind as large as possible.

What is the difference between Outdoor Blinds and ZipScreen?

Outdoor Blinds use a conventional outdoor roller system and are a practical option for reducing sun and glare while providing daytime privacy.

ZipScreen uses a zip-channel system that keeps the fabric secured within aluminium side channels. This provides better fabric retention and a more enclosed finish.

Which one is more suitable depends on the opening, exposure and what you want the blind to achieve.

Are Outdoor Blinds waterproof?

The outdoor fabric is designed for outdoor use, but an Outdoor Blind should not be treated as a fully sealed rain enclosure. Rain can still enter around the sides and bottom depending on wind direction, weather conditions and the installation area.

If stronger fabric retention and a more enclosed system are required, ask your authorised dealer whether ZipScreen is more suitable.

Can Outdoor Blinds be left down during strong wind?

We don’t recommend leaving conventional Outdoor Blinds down during strong winds or severe weather.

If conditions become unsuitable, retract the blinds rather than putting unnecessary stress on the fabric and system. For more exposed locations, let your authorised dealer assess the site before choosing the system.

Are VB blinds custom-made?

Yes, VB Blinds are fabricated according to the approved measurements and specifications for each project. They are not standard-sized, off-the-shelf blinds.

That’s why getting the final measurements right matters.

When should my blinds be measured?

You can start choosing your blinds during the renovation stage, but final measurements should only be taken when the areas that could affect installation are ready.

This may include false ceilings, pelmets, carpentry, plastering and other window-side finishes.

Choose early. Plan early. Measure when the opening is ready.

Can VB blinds be ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted?

Yes. VB blind systems can be installed using ceiling or wall mounting. The right method depends on the blind system, window, available mounting surface and surrounding carpentry.

Your authorised dealer can assess this during measurement.

Who measures and installs my VB blinds?

VB Blind works through our network of authorised dealers.

Customers should arrange measurement and installation through their authorised dealer, who will coordinate the requirements for the project.

Can I install VB blinds myself or use my own installer?

We recommend arranging installation through the authorised dealer supplying your VB Blinds.

Correct installation matters to how the blind operates, aligns and performs over time. Your dealer can coordinate the appropriate installation arrangement for your project.

I'm renovating. When should I plan for motorised blinds?

As early as possible. Our motorised blinds require electrical provision near the blind. It is much easier to plan this before your electrical, ceiling and carpentry works are completed.

You can decide on the finishing details later. Plan the power early.

Do I need approval to install blinds?

For standard indoor blinds, this is generally straightforward.

Outdoor installations can be different depending on the property, installation position and works required.

For HDB, condominium or other managed properties, check the applicable HDB, Town Council, MCST or building requirements where necessary before proceeding with external works.

How should I clean my Roller Blinds?

For everyday cleaning, gently remove dust using a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner on low suction with a soft brush attachment.

For small marks, a lightly dampened cloth may be suitable depending on the fabric. Avoid soaking the fabric, aggressive scrubbing, bleach or strong cleaning chemicals.

How should I clean Korean Blinds?

Use a vacuum cleaner on low suction with a soft brush attachment to gently remove dust. For small marks, use a lightly dampened cloth where suitable.

Korean Blinds have a dual-layer fabric construction, so avoid pulling the layers apart, rubbing them aggressively or soaking the fabric.

How should I clean my Trishade Blinds?

For regular cleaning, use a vacuum cleaner on low suction with a soft brush attachment to gently remove dust from the fabric.

If dust or small debris gets trapped between the fabric layers, you can use a blower or a hair dryer on the cool-air setting to gently blow it out. Avoid using hot air, as heat may affect the fabric. Do not pull the fabric layers apart or rub them aggressively.

For small marks, use a lightly dampened soft cloth where suitable. Avoid soaking the fabric or using bleach, strong detergents or harsh cleaning chemicals.

When in doubt, check with your authorised dealer before attempting deeper cleaning.

How should I clean my Outdoor Blinds?

Start by removing loose dust and dirt with a soft brush or cloth.

For the fabric, gently wipe the surface using clean water and a soft cloth or sponge. For more stubborn dirt, a small amount of mild detergent may be used before rinsing with clean water. Avoid abrasive brushes, strong chemicals and high-pressure washing, as these may damage the fabric or components.

Allow the blind to dry before rolling it up where possible. If the blind is obstructed or not operating smoothly, don’t force it — contact your authorised dealer.

How should I clean my ZipScreen?

Remove loose dust and dirt from the fabric and accessible tracks using a soft brush or cloth.

The fabric can be gently cleaned with clean water and a soft cloth or sponge. If needed, use a small amount of mild detergent, then rinse away any residue with clean water.

Keep the side channels clear of leaves, dirt and other debris so the screen can travel smoothly.

Avoid abrasive cleaning tools, strong chemicals and high-pressure washing. Do not force the ZipScreen if it becomes obstructed or does not move normally.

Allow the screen to dry before rolling it up where possible.

How often should I clean my blinds?

There isn’t one fixed schedule for every home.

Dust them regularly before dirt builds up. Blinds near open windows, balconies, kitchens or high-traffic areas may need more frequent attention than blinds in enclosed rooms.

Gentle, regular cleaning is better than waiting until heavy cleaning is required.

Can I wash my blind fabric?

No. Blind fabrics should not be removed, soaked or machine washed.

For regular care, use the recommended cleaning method for your blind type, such as gentle dusting, low-suction vacuuming or spot cleaning where suitable.

Avoid putting blind fabric into a washing machine or using strong detergents and harsh cleaning chemicals, as these may damage the fabric. If deeper cleaning is required, check with your authorised dealer before proceeding.

What should I do if my blind becomes uneven or stops operating smoothly?

Don’t force the blind.

Stop operating it and contact the dealer who supplied the blind. Photos or a short video of the issue can help identify what needs to be checked before servicing is arranged.

Can damaged blind fabric be repaired?

It depends on the type and extent of the damage.

Small marks may only require cleaning, while tears, holes or permanent fabric damage may require replacement rather than repair.

Send photos of the affected area to your dealer so the condition can be assessed.

Should I choose manual or motorised blinds?

It depends on the window and how you use it.

Manual blinds are straightforward and don’t require electrical power. Motorisation makes more sense for large windows, multiple blinds, difficult-to-reach areas or when you simply want easier everyday control.

Neither option is automatically better. Choose the system that makes sense for the space.

Which motors does VB Blind use?

VB Blind offers different motor options depending on the blind system and project requirements, including brands such as Dooya, A-OK and Somfy.

The right motor depends on factors such as blind type, size, control requirements and installation conditions. Your authorised dealer can recommend the appropriate configuration.

How are motorised blinds controlled?

Motorised blinds can be operated using a remote control.

Different channel configurations are available, allowing multiple blinds to be controlled individually or grouped together using one remote.

Compatible configurations can also support smart-home integration depending on the motor and control system selected.

Can several motorised blinds operate from one remote?

Yes. Multi-channel remote controls allow different blinds to be assigned to separate channels. Blinds can also be grouped so that several blinds operate together.

The channel configuration can be planned according to how you want to use the blinds in each room.

Can VB motorised blinds work with Google Home or Amazon Alexa?

Compatible motor and smart-home configurations can support platforms such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa through the appropriate control system or hub.

Compatibility depends on the motor and setup selected, so tell your authorised dealer which smart-home system you use before confirming your order.

Do motorised blinds need a power point?

Mains-powered motorised blinds require an appropriate electrical supply near the blind.

If you’re renovating, let your electrician or interior designer know that you’re considering motorised blinds before electrical, ceiling and carpentry works are completed.

Planning early makes the final installation much cleaner.

What happens to my motorised blinds during a power outage?

Mains-powered motorised blinds will not operate while the power supply is down. They will be operational again once power is restored. There is no manual override for these systems.

We recommend switching off the power supply to the motorised blinds during a power outage and turning it back on after the electrical supply has stabilised.

Can I convert an existing manual blind to motorised?

No. Manual and motorised blinds use different systems and mechanisms, so an existing manual blind cannot simply have a motor added to it.

If you want to change from manual to motorised operation, a new compatible blind system will be required.
