Shadow Blinds

You've probably seen these in someone's home and thought, 'that looks nice.' That's a Korean Blind — also called a Shadow Blind. Soft, layered, and easy to live with, in dimout or blackout.

A Little Texture,
A Lot Of Comfort

If you’ve walked into a friend’s home and noticed their window blinds have a bit more character — a soft woven texture instead of a flat sheet, chances are it was a Korean Blind. We also call them Shadow Blinds. They’re made from two layers woven together, which gives them that lovely textured look while still doing the job of controlling light.

The Right Fabric Changes Everything

Dimout Shadow Blinds

Soft and gentle — this one filters the light rather than blocking it out completely, leaving your room with a warm, comfortable glow. About 60-70% of sunlight is reduced, just enough to take the edge off without making the room feel closed in.

  • Light reduction: Approximately 60-70% of incoming sunlight blocked
  • Effect: Soft, diffused ambient light — no harsh glare
  • Privacy: Good daytime privacy — silhouettes and details not clearly visible from outside
  • Best for: Living rooms, dining areas, study rooms, bedrooms (light sleepers)

Blackout Shadow Blinds

A bit more serious about keeping the light out — around 80-90% blocked, which makes a real difference for a good afternoon nap or an early bedtime for the kids. Still has that same lovely woven texture.

  • Light reduction: Approximately 80-90% of incoming sunlight blocked
  • Note: Not 100% full blackout — a small residual light gap exists due to the dual-layer construction
  • Privacy: High — suitable for bedroom privacy needs
  • Best for: Bedrooms, home offices, spaces needing significant but not absolute darkness

FAQ

Korean Blinds — also called Shadow Blinds or Zebra Blinds — are a dual-layer woven fabric roller blind originally popularised in South Korea. The two-layer construction creates a soft, textured appearance on the window, with a woven face layer and a backing layer that controls light. They are popular in Singapore for their designer aesthetic and versatile light filtering.

Yes. Korean Blinds and Shadow Blinds refer to the same product. VB Blind markets them as Shadow Blinds, but Korean Blinds is the widely recognised common name used by homeowners searching in Singapore.

No — and this is important to understand. Because Korean Blinds are made from two woven layers with a natural small gap between them, we cannot guarantee 100% full blackout even with our Blackout Korean Blind variant. The Blackout variant blocks approximately 80–90% of light, which is suitable for most bedrooms, but is not the same as a solid opaque blackout roller blind.

Dimout Korean Blinds reduce incoming sunlight by approximately 60–70%, leaving a soft filtered glow in the room. Blackout Korean Blinds block approximately 80–90% of light, creating a noticeably darker room. Both carry the same textured woven aesthetic — the difference is in the light-blocking backing layer.

Yes. VB Blind’s Korean Blind fabrics are suited to Singapore’s tropical indoor environment. As with all indoor fabric blinds, they should not be exposed to direct prolonged water contact or heavy moisture.

Yes. VB Blind Korean Blinds are available in motorised versions using Dooya, AOK, or Somfy tubular motors with RF remote control and smart home compatibility. Motorised units require a hardwired 240V mains connection.

Gently vacuum the fabric surface with a soft brush attachment. For spot stains, use a lightly dampened cloth with mild soap. The dual-layer construction is more delicate than single fabric — avoid pulling, rubbing hard, or soaking the blind.

Manual Korean Blinds: max 2.5m wide by 3.0m drop (min width 0.4m). Motorised Korean Blinds: max 3.0m wide by 6.0m drop (min width 0.8m). Both can be ceiling or wall mounted.

The best way to see the fabric and finish is through your authorised VB Blind dealer, who will have fabric samples and can advise on the right variant for your space. Submit an enquiry via our Contact page and we will connect you with the nearest dealer.
